Gus Pearson, Lane

Funeral services for Gus “Pop” H. Pearson, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Levine, were held Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Bethel AME Church of Lane. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at McKnight Cemetery of Lane. Mr. Pearson died Monday, January 13, 2014. He was born April 20, 1943, in Lane, the son of the late Bertha Davis Pearson and John Pearson, Sr. He was a member of Bethel AME Church of Lane. He attended Lane Consolidated Elementary School and Williamsburg County Training now C.E. Murray High School. Later, he moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. He was a certified auto mechanic, heavy machine operator and cement finisher. Two siblings, John S. Pearson, Jr. and Jannie P. Oliver, preceded him in death. Survivors are: one son, Darris Pearson (Rena) of Knightdale, North Carolina; two brothers, Joseph Pearson of Hebron; and Deacon Elvis Pearson (Sharon) of High Point, North Carolina; three sisters, Gussie Pearson and the Rev. Anna Pearson, both of Lane; and Evangelist Bertha P. Harding of East Point, Georgia; and three grandchildren.
