Funeral services for John “Lib” Salters, Jr., conducted by the Rev. Elijah Williams, were held Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Clauddie Henryhand Memorial Chapel of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Marion Memorial Garden of Salters. Mr. Salters died Sunday, December 29, 2013, at his home in Eustis, Florida. He was born March 1, 1931, in Kingstree, the son of the late John and Mary Salters. He attended Shaw Corner Elementary and Tomlinson High School of Kingstree. At an early age, he left his hometown and went to Florence to find work. He lived with relatives and worked there for a period of time, until he was drafted in the US Army. He completed his tour of duty and was discharged in 1954. Eventually he moved to Florida, where he made a living pruning, gathering fruits and vegetables. Survivors are: three brothers, Fredda Joe Salters, Nathaniel Salters (Jeanetta) and Willie E. Salters, all of Kingstree; four sisters, Mildred Stith (Floyd), Leona McAlister (Hasco) and Florence Nesbitt (Herbert), all of Kingstree; and Johnnie L. Scott of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a very special friend, Willie Mae Taylor of Eustis, Florida; and her daughter, Hattie Mae Perdue whom he raised as his own.
