Fred Jenkins, St. Stephens

Funeral services for Fred Sammie Jenkins, conducted by Supt. Johnny Prioleau, were held Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at Believers Temple Church of God in Christ of St. Stephen. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Mexico Cemetery of Pineville. Mr. Jenkins died Friday, January 3, 2014, at Trident Medical Systems of Moncks Corner. He was born August 18, 1943, in Cross, the son of the late Mary Lee Jenkins and Prince “Pete” Levine. He received his formal education in the public schools of Berkeley County and graduated in 1961 from Russellville High School. Later, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he was employed by Watson Pharmaceutical Company for over 45 years and retired. He was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brentwood Long Island, New York. Survivors are: his wife, Ruth Jenkins of the home; two children, Sheila Alston (Joe) and Jermaine Jenkins of Central Islip Island, New York; six sisters, Wilhemina McLaurin (Robert) and Gloria Johnson (Robert), both of New Haven, Connecticut; Rosa Moultrie of Charleston; Carrie Campbell (Melvin) of Brooklyn, New York; Alfreda President of Cross; and Shirley Gilliam (Barry) of Goose Creek; five brothers, Charlie Levine of New Haven, Connecticut; the Rev. Clifford Levine (Victoria) and Michael Levine, both of Cross; Min. Alfred Levine (Bernice) of Charleston; and Bernard Levine of James Island; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ezekiel Mazyck, Henry Seabrook, William Green, Mack Ravenell, Nathaniel Pinckney, and Damon White.
