Funeral services for York James Cooper, conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Shular, were held Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Bethesda United Methodist Church of Lake City. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery of Kingstree. Mr. Cooper, 72, died Monday, December 30, 2013, at his residence in Kingstree. He was born September 1, 1941, in Cades, the son of the late Eugene and Almateen McClary Cooper. He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, where he served as a United Methodist Men and a trustee. He worked as a heavy equipment operator on road construction. Survivors are: his wife, Barbara Ann White Cooper of the home; one son, York Cooper of the home; one brother, Robert “Ted” Cooper of Nesmith; and three sisters, Ronita Geadist and Mildred Cunningham (James), both of Nesmith; and Jackie Singleton (Major) of Greeleyville.
