Funeral services for Berthenia Chandler Nixon, conducted by Apostle J. Bernard McCray, were held Saturday December 21, 2013, at Clauddie Henryhand Memorial Chapel of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Crossroad Cemetery of Salters. Mrs. Nixon died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at McLeod Regional Medical Center of Florence. She was born August 22, 1937, in Kingstree, the daughter of Mrs. Lillie Chandler and the late Lloyd Chandler. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. In 1956, she moved to Hollywood, Florida. She was married to the late Ernest Brown, Sr. In the 1980s, she moved back to South Carolina. She was employed at Baxter Lab for several years. She was also employed in food services for the Williamsburg County School District. A daughter, Delta Barr, preceded her in death. Survivors, in addition to her mother of Kingstree, are: seven children, Laurie Brown, Gregory Brown, Sherman Brown, Ernest Brown, Jr., Glynnis Brown Reed, David Brown and Fredrick Brown; her companion, Clarence Smith of Kingstree; and a special grandson, Shawn Williams.
