I am thankful

Thanksgiving is right around the corner but you wouldn't know it because of the premature infiltration of industry's need to exploit Christmas. Thanksgiving has a revered past with its beginnings as a Christian based tradition dating back to 1623 when pilgrims gathered after the harvest to thank their Divine Benefactor - God - for His blessings.

Therefore, before the "celebration" is overshadowed with toys, ornaments and wrapping paper, I wish to express my thanksgiving for the blessings in my life.

I am thankful for waking up every day: if I didn't wake up, I wouldn't have the opportunity to breathe, talk or snack.   I am thankful for chocolate: If I didn't have chocolate I would shrivel up and die.   I am thankful for friends: If I didn't have friends to keep me straight, I would be a lost, wayward woman desperately seeking fame as a standup comic.   I am thankful for having a car: If I didn't have a car I'd have to ask my husband for a ride to the mall and we all know how husbands feel about that.   I am thankful for our unsung heroes: If we didn't have these silent warriors whose hard work benefits our community we'd be in a real mess.   I am thankful for local our industry: If we didn't have them our county would be in dire straits.   I am thankful for teachers: If I didn't have teachers whose patience prevailed over my ADHD I would still be standing in some cold dark corner.   I am thankful for our military and our veterans: If we didn't have them we would not live in a free nation.    I am thankful for my husband: If he were not part of my life I would be in jail.   I am thankful for integrity: Without it our town, county, state, and nation is lost.   I am thankful for charity: Without it our people would go hungry.   I am thankful for love and compassion: Without them we cannot survive.   I am thankful for surprises: Without surprises we would miss one of the simple joys present in children.   I am thankful for hope: Without hope our world would be filled with chaos and despair.

Finally, I am thankful for having the sense enough to know there is a Devine Benefactor: He is the reason for my existence and the catalyst behind sharing with you why I am thankful. Happy Thanksgiving!
