Traffic Safety Checkpoints - The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of August.

Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check.  Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Eric Williams or Police Chaplain the Rev. Harold Jackson. Chief Williams or Rev. Jackson can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”
 
Weight Watchers- Weight Watchers 2013 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.
 
Child Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Ser-vices, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.
 
Housing Authority - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.
 
Meetings - The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments meetings will be held,  October 14, November 11, and December 9.  All meetings are held in the Council’s Conference Room, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, at 7 p.m. Copies of agendas may be obtained by calling (843) 546-8502.
 
Gullah Geechee Day - The Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission will participate in “Gullah Geechee Day” at the SC State Fair on Saturday, October 12, in Columbia. For information please call (803) 799-3387.
 
Tournament - ArborOne will hold its annual Aim-At-Ag Sporting Clays Tournament on Saturday, October 26, with all proceeds being equally divided between South Carolina’s 4-H and FFA programs.  U-Pick - Williams Vineyard and Farm LLC, 21 Gabriel Place, Nesmith. Come and visit the vineyard and U-pick experience, and the activities of an early Black farm. Performance - The University of South Carolina Chamber Orchestra is an elite auditioned group of talented graduate and undergraduate students who have a passion for collaborative music making. Chamber music performances are coached by the USC faculty members; however, it is the students who are the stars of the show. Many of these musicians play in orchestras across the state and also perform in the larger USC Symphony Orchestra. This is your opportunity to hear the performers of tomorrow. The University of South Carolina Chamber Orchestra will be performing Thursday, November 21, at Lake City Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m.
 
 
Veterans Parade - Chairman Thomas Alford of the Andrews Veterans Association (AVA) proudly announces the annual Andrews Veterans Day Parade & Service will be held on Saturday, November 2,  starting at 1 p.m. in Andrews.  Individual veterans and their families are welcome to participate. Immediately after the parade a Veterans Day Service will be held inside the Andrews National Guard Armory, which is where the parade route ends. Parade - Town of Kingstree/Bi-Lo annual Pig Pickin’ Festival Parade will be held Saturday, October 19, at 10 a.m. There will be no entry fee. If you are planning to participate, contact the Town of Kingstree/Pig Pickin’ Committee, located at 401 N. Longstreet St., Kingstree, at (843) 355-7484 or (843) 355-8156. Due to insurance purposes candy and items must be handed out – not thrown.
 
Meeting - The Williamsburg Section of The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) will meet on Friday, October 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg County Recreation on Thurgood Marshall Blvd. If you are a member or would like to join, please make plans to be at the meeting.
 
Meeting - The Nomination Committee has met and prepared the 2013 names for board elections. There will be nominations taken from the floor the night of the partnership annual meeting to be held on Tuesday, October 8, at 6 p.m. in the Kenneth Gardner Elementary School Cafeteria, located at 1503 Woodland Drive, Kingstree.  If you should have any questions and/or concerns in regards to these names, then please contact Dr. Janice M. Gamble at (843) 426-2121 on or before Friday, October 4, by 12 p.m.
The names are as follows: no more than two members from pre-kindergarten through primary educator: Angela B. Fulton and Latetia Staggers; family education, training and support providers: Joe Castle; non-profit organization: Eric T. Williams; faith community: seats are vacant; business community: Cezar McKnight and Janie McCrea; child care and early childhood education provider: Ella Fulton and Gwendolyn McFadden; healthcare provider: Jannice P. Gamble; and transportation provider: Ophelia Starks McClary. Pre-school children being served in a First Steps Program: Josa E. McIntosh.  Finally, the Early Childhood Education, no more than four persons and their names are: Ella Fulton and Judy Coker. Williamsburg County First Steps is a non-profit board that relies on the generosity of volunteer board members who donate their time and services to the board.
 
Remembrance - Tidelands Community Hospice will hold its annual Service of Remembrance & Hope in three locations this year: Thursday, October 10,  at 5:30 pm at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church Fellow-ship Hall Courtyard, 411 N. Academy St., Kingstree. These services are a tribute to hospice patients who died during the past year, as well as others in the community who have died. Families and friends of deceased loved ones are invited to join the hospice staff and volunteers in honoring their memory.
This event, open to all members of the public, is a celebration of life. The service will last about half an hour. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. Casual attire is recommended. Tidelands Community Hospice, Inc. is a non-profit agency, dedicated to providing care to terminally ill patients and their families.

Meeting - Williamsburg County DSN Board will be having their monthly board meeting on Wednesday, October 16, at 4 p.m. at Williamsburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, 61 Greenlee Street, Kingstree.
 
Daylily Club - The Georgetown Area Daylily Club will be meeting on October 13, at 2:30 p.m. at the Dick M. Johnson Civic Center, 829 N. Pine Dr., Surfside Beach. For more information please call Heidi at (843) 240-2532.
 
Car Show - The Longstreet Chevrolet, Buick & GMC Auto Mall Car Show, hosted by the Palmetto Cruisers Car Club of Florence, will be held at 153 Williams-burg Hwy. (Hwy. 52) in Kingstree on Saturday, October 19. This show is dedicated to the memory of fellow Palmetto Cruiser and Hall of Famer Joseph D. “J.D.” Britton, Sr., 1931 - 2012.
Show car registration will be from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Cruisers will be accepting cash and toy donations for the Marine Corps Reserve’s TOYS FOR TOTS campaign.
