Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

 

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Carolina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical College (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is (843) 213-8507.

 

TOPS Program - Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Weight Program will meet on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. at Ina Miles Store. For more information contact Lillie Jean at (843) 355-3002 or Ann at (843) 382-9696.

 

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2013 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Child Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Ser-vices, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

Housing Authority - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

 

Meetings - The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments meetings will be held March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8*, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 11, and December 9*.  All meetings are held in the Council’s Conference Room, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, at 7 p.m.  The public is invited to attend all meetings. Gala - In celebration of ArtFields LCCS presents an arts gala, “Jazz It Up” featuring the Dick Goodwin Quintet on Thursday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the National Bean Market.

This Columbia based quintet will bring a new level of excitement to the annual gala, performing a wide range of musical styles from Dixieland stompers to swing standards, Latin and contemporary flavors, sensuous ballads, plus original compositions written especially for the ensemble. Art exhibits of works by local students and professional artists will set the stage for this annual showcase event in Lake City.  A silent auction of artwork will raise funds for arts education in local schools. An array of fabulous hor d’oeuvres and fine wines makes this evening a highlight of the Lake City arts scene.

 

Meeting - Waccamaw Workforce Investment Board meeting schedule for 2013: March 19, May 21, July 16, September 17, and November19. All meetings are held in the council’s conference room, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown at 9:30 a.m.  The public is invited to attend all meetings.  Agendas for meetings are posted in the council’s office at least seven days prior to the meetings.  Copies of agendas may be obtained by calling (843) 546-8502.

Free Exhibition - A free exhibition walk-in “Visualizing the Black Experience in America” will be held from February 11 to March 11, at the Williamsburg County Arts Gallery, 108 W. Main St., Kingstree.

Florence Foster Jenkins, a wealthy socialite with a famously uncertain sense of pitch performed countless recitals that became the talk of New York and earned Jenkins and her pianist cultish fame. It is a touching and hilarious portrayal of a woman in love with music and her accompanist who tries to protect her from herself.

Meeting - Waccamaw Area Family Caregiver Support Group meeting will be held March 6, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments, 1230 Highmarket St., Georgetown. Are you a caregiver for a frail or disabled adult 60 or older experiencing the stress and isolation that can often come with being a full-time caregiver? Come join the family caregiver support group to gain knowledge, support, and insight from other caregivers like yourself. Gala Nominations - Williamsburg County School District will hold its second Hall of Fame Induction Scholarship Gala on May 17. During this celebration distinguished graduates and contributors of the system will be honored.  If you would like to nominate a person for this award, nomination forms with specific guidelines can be downloaded at www. wcsd.k12.sc.us. Completed forms must be emailed to galanominations@wcsd.k12.sc.us and received by 5 p.m. on March 8.

 

Conference - Georgetown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will have a Sisters Impacting Sisters (SIS) Women’s Conference on Saturday, March 16, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Georgetown High School, 2500 Anthuan Maybank Dr., Georgetown. The featured speaker is the Rev. Jacquie Hood Martin, motivational speaker and author. This event is free and opened to the public. The conference’s focus will be nutrition, finance, and balanced living.
