Traffic Safety Checkpoints - The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of February.

Seniors Patrol - he Kingstree Police Depart-ment is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

 

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Caro-lina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is (843) 213-8507.

 

TOPS Program - Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Weight Program will meet on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. at Ina Miles Store. For more information contact Lillie Jean at (843) 355-3002 or Ann at (843) 382-9696.

 

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2013 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Child Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Ser-vices, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

Housing Authority - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

 

Meetings - The Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments meetings will be held March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8*, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 11, and December 9*.  All meetings are held in the Council’s Conference Room, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend all meetings. Agendas for meetings are posted in the council’s office at least seven days prior to the meetings. Copies of agendas may be obtained by calling (843) 546-8502.

 

Meeting - Williamsburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board will meet on Wednesday, February 20, at 4 p.m. at 61 Greenlee St., Kingstree.

 

Gala - In celebration of ArtFields LCCS presents an arts gala, “Jazz It Up” featuring the Dick Goodwin Quintet on Thursday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the National Bean Market.

This Columbia based quintet will bring a new level of excitement to the annual gala, performing a wide range of musical styles from Dixieland stompers to swing standards, Latin and contemporary flavors, sensuous ballads, plus original compositions written especially for the ensemble. Art exhibits of works by local students and professional artists will set the stage for this annual showcase event in Lake City.  A silent auction of artwork will raise funds for arts education in local schools. An array of fabulous hor d’oeuvres and fine wines makes this evening a highlight of the Lake City arts scene.

 

Meeting - Waccamaw Workforce Investment Board meeting schedule for 2013: March 19, May 21, July 16, September 17, and November19. All meetings are held in the council’s conference room, 1230 Highmarket Street, Georgetown at 9:30 a.m.  The public is invited to attend all meetings. Tournament - The South Carolina 4-H Sporting Clays Tournament will be held in Clinton on February 23. The event will be located at The Clinton House and registration will begin at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to expand the South Carolina 4-H Youth Development Programs. Barbecue lunch is included. For information regarding registration fee for a team of four or an individual or to sponsor this event please call Jolie Brown at (843) 355-6106. Shooter registration deadline is February 15, and February 13, for sponsorship.

 

Free Taxes - File your taxes for free, Williamsburg County First Steps in collaboration with The Benefit Bank of South Carolina will complete your taxes on the following days and locations: February 6 to April 11, Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Williamsburg County First Steps Office located at 500 North Academy St., Kingstree.

February 15 through March 23, Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chavis One Stop Complex – Computer Lab Hall #3 located at 2118 S. State Hwy. 41-51, Hemingway. Meeting - The Williamsburg County First Steps Partnership Board will have it regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday, February 12, at 5:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg County School District Staff Development Room located at 500 North Academy Street Building A, Kingstree. Williamsburg County citizens concerned about improving early childhood education and school readiness are encouraged to attend.

 

Meeting - Vital Aging of Williamsburg County, Inc. will hold its monthly board of directors meeting on Wednesday, February 20, at 3:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Kingstree Wellness Center at 912 4th Avenue, Kingstree.  Please call (843) 354-5496 if you have any questions.

 

Class - A Concealed Weapons Permit class will be held Saturday, March 2, at 8 a.m. at the Kingstree Town Hall. For more information, please contact Lt. Whitfield at (843) 355-8169.

 

Banquet - The Williamsburg County Branch’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) annual banquet will be held Friday, February 22, at the Williamsburg County School District Annex, 500 N. Academy St., Kingstree. The event will begin at 7 p.m. The Honorable US Marshal Kevin Washington, former Williamsburg County Sheriff, will be the speaker. For tickets contact any NAACP member.

 

Banquet and Auction - The First Baptist Church of Andrews presents Sportsman’s Outdoors Banquet and Auction with special guests Bobby and Betsy Richardson Saturday, February 23, 6 p.m. at the  National Guard Armory, located 401 W. Main Street Andrews. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the First Baptist Church at 264-5746. All proceeds will help fund our missions trip. Auction items include: vacation rentals, various hunting trips, handmade items and more.
