[/if ImageKingstree] Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office responded to a train accident on Tuesday, June 2, at a rail crossing located in Cades that involved a lone black female. Jessica McKenzie, 27, of Lake City, was struck by a train as she stood on the tracks. According to the sheriff’s incident report, when the operator of the train saw the woman, dressed in black clothing and holding her arms out, he attempted to slow the train down but was unable before striking her.

Williamsburg County Coroner Harrison McKnight pronounced McKenzie dead at the scene. An autopsy is being performed and an investigation by the sheriff’s office continues.
