Dr. William “Bill” Clinkscales, Sr. died Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the AnMed Health of Anderson. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. J. Jeanetté Cooper, were held Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at Wesley AME Church Cemetery of Jamestown.
Dr. Clinkscales was born July 5, 1943, in Abbeville County, a son of the late Vance Clinkscales, Sr. and Mary McAdams Clinkscales. Three siblings, Dora Wilson, Sylvia Clinkscales, and Oscar Clinkscales, preceded him in death. He was educated in the public schools of Abbeville County. He was a member of Goldview Baptist Church of Clemson. He was an associate member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Blue Ridge Masonic Lodge No. 97 of Westminister and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He retired from the United States Air Force, Clemson University and served as a former trustee for South Carolina State University. Survivors are: his wife, Veronica D. Clinkscales of the home; four sons, William C. Clinkscales, Jr. of Anderson; the Rev. Antonio Clinkscales (Vicki) of Center, Virginia; Laurie Alston of Kingstree; and William Alston (Kia) of Greenville; three brothers, Jerry Clinkscales of Tuskegee, Alabama; Vance Clinkscales, Jr. (Harriett) of Anderson; and Joe Clinkscales (Lula) of Iva; three sisters, Melrose Hunter (Theodore) of Asheville, North Carolina; Lillian Green (Albert) of Columbia; and Cora Lee (Curtis) of Donalds; and nine grandchildren.
