Funeral services for Wilford Brown, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Robert G. McCutchen, Jr., were held at Jerusalem Baptist Church of Jamestown. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Jerusalem Baptist Churchyard Cemetery of Jamestown. Mr. Brown died Monday, October 29, 2012, at his residence. He was born April 15, 1932, in Jamestown, the son of the late Nellie Powell. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served on the chorus. Rug Masters of Charleston employed him for 28 years. He was also employed by the City of Charleston, where he remained for many years until his retirement. Bonner Elementary School employed him, where he retired also. He was married to Annabelle Sanders. One child, and a brother, Israel Tyler Brown, preceded him in death. Survivors are: six daughters, Barbara Rivers, Sandra Wright, Janet Washington, Cheryl Brown, Pamela Smalls, and Anita A. Deveauxh (Sammy); two sons, Wilford Brown, Jr. and Russell Brown (Janice); one sister, Maggie L. Carr; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
