Traffic Safety Checkpoints - The Lane, Greeleyville, and Kingstree Police Departments will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints during the month of December

Seniors Patrol - The Kingstree Police Depart-ment is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden residents of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford.  Chief Ford can be reached at 355-5435 or come by the police department and leave your name, phone number, and address.

Memory Dish - Hospice Care of South Caro-lina's Grief Support Group, known as the "Memory Dish" is held the second Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Technical Col-lege (Administrative Office Building Conference Room). The Memory Dish is conducted by Chaplain Willis Broughton. The contact number for this group is (843) 213-8507.

 

TOPS Program - Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Weight Program will meet on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. at Ina Miles Store. For more information contact Lillie Jean at (843) 355-3002 or Ann at (843) 382-9696.

Senior Bingo - The senior citizens of Lane invite any senior citizen to join them every first and third Tuesday at Lane Recreation Center on Broomstraw Rd. for “Senior Bingo.”

 

Weight Watchers - Weight Watchers 2012 meetings will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingstree. Classes are on Thursdays at 5 p.m.

 

Screenings - Williamsburg County School District Office of Special Ser-vices, located at 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree, (843) 355-5533, will hold child find screenings each month.

 

Meeting - The Housing Authority of Kingstree will meet every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at 1022 Lexington Ave., Kingstree.

 

Showcase - The second annual “A Beautiful Black Christmas”Will be held from November 5 to December 31. A showcase of black angels, Santas, nutcrackers, nativity scenes and Christmas trees decorated with black ornaments from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at C. Williams Rush Gallery Of African-American Arts & Culture, 200 Hampton Avenue, Kingstree. Please call for group and other appointment times, (803) 397-1859 school groups are encouraged to attend all of the educational exhibits.

 

Kingstree Christmas Parade - The Town of Kingstree will host its annual Christmas Parade on Friday, December 7, at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to contact the Kingstree Town Hall, Frank H. McGill Municipal Complex located at 401 N. Longstreet St., Kingstree or you may call (843) 355-7484 for entry, registration, and additional information no later than Wednesday, November 18. Entry is free.Line up will begin at 5 p.m. at the Kingstree Public Library located on Jackson Street. The parade will end at the Anderson Bank located on E. Main Street. The lighting of the Christmas tree will commence following the parade at Welch’s Park Downtown on E. Main Street. There will be a special guest for the kids.

 

Season of Giving - It’s that time of year again to put a smile on the face of a child. This year, Teachings From the Ark, Inc. (The Ark), Mary Magdeline Outreach Center and The Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Annual Toy Drive have drop off boxes for unwrapped new toys. Boxes are located at the following locations: Anderson Brothers Bank, 500 E. Main Street, Kingstree; Georgetown Kraft Credit Union, 488 Nelson Blvd., Kingstree; Food Lion, 15 N. Williamsburg County Hwy., Kingstree; and United Finance Company, 115 Mill St., Kingstree. Monetary donation cans are also located at United Finance, Georgetown Kraft Credit Union, Food Lion, and Barr Law, LLC, 108 N. Academy St., Kingstree. With your help this year, The Ark can bless the lives of many children in the surrounding area by simply placing a smile on their faces, with the help of your donations. Volunteers Needed - Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to the reduction of rape, family violence and child abuse and to the needs of its victims. The next training class is scheduled for December 8, December 11, and December 15, from 9 am. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on December 11, at the Kingstree Town Hall at 401 North Longstreet St., Kingstree. Holiday Performance - Williamsburg County Magnet School of the Arts will present its holiday performance on December 18, at 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

 

Library Events - The Williamsburg County Library is hosting two events during the month of December. The first will be on December 13, at 4 p.m. Raggs the Clown will be performing and Santa is coming to do free pictures with the children! Then on December 20, there will be a Christmas carnival for children ages zero to 12 starting at 5 p.m.

 

Webster University Registration - Webster University’s registration for current students began on Wednesday, October 24, for Spring I and Spring II. Tuesday, January 2, 2013, is last day to register for Spring I classes. Orientation (for new students) for non-counseling students is on Thursday, December 6, at 12 p.m., orientation (new students only) will be held for counseling students. If you are a new student, you must contact the university in order to participate in orientation. Non-counseling students can contact Chris Foy. Counseling students can contact Stephanie Davis. First Steps Session #5 - Williamsburg County First Steps will host session #5 of the Child Care Training and Professional Development Thursday, December 6, at 6 p.m. at the Williamsburg County School District Annex Staff Development Room, located in Building A on 500 North Academy Street, Kingstree. Trainings will be conducted by Mrs. Jenny Richardson at the completion of this session providers will receive 1.0 hours of DSS Credit in Blood Borne Pathogen. Director’s Forum Meeting -Williamsburg County First Steps in collaboration with Eat Smart Move More, DHEC, and MUSC- Southeastern Virtual Institute for Health Equity and Wellness-(SE-VIEW) will hold a director’s forum meeting on Wednesday, December 12, at 1 p.m. in the Williamsburg County School District Annex Staff Development Room, located at 500 North Academy Street. Williamsburg County citizens concerned about improving early childhood education and school readiness are encouraged to attend.

Santa Pictures at the Library - Thursday, December 13, the Williamsburg County Library is hosting an event for children ages zero to 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Joe the Balloon Dude and Santa Claus will come and entertain the kids. There will be special balloons and free pictures with Santa for the parents!

 

Child Care Registration - Greater Bethel Community Child Care Learning Center will open on January 2, from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for preschool and after school.

The center is located at 308 W. Main St., Kingstree, and accepts ABC Vouchers.

Program - The Lay Organization of Greater St. Mark AME Church, 1297 Old Georgetown Old Road, Hemingway, and the Rev. Arthur W. Ford invite you to a 100 plus Men in Black and 100 plus Ladies in White program on Sunday, December 9, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Kylon J. Middleton, pastor of Hope Well AME Church will be the guest speaker.

 

Meeting - Williamsburg County Education Association – Retired Association will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, December 11, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
