Lane resident Kendall Karon Rious, 19, has been charged with attempted murder, among other charges in connection to a New Year's Eve shooting. According to a Williamsburg County Sheriff's Incident Report, deputies were dispatched to Gourdin Road in Lane where they met the victim. Upon arrival, the victim claimed, he was shot by Rious and described Rious and a companion driver leaving the scene in an SUV. Deputies recovered a 9 mm shell casing at the scene.

Additional law enforcement arrived at the home of the alleged driver. After a lawful search, Rious was located inside the home and arrested. Rious would lead deputies to a 9 mm handgun and a magazine in the home. Both were entered into evidence, as well as a 9 mm shell casing discovered in the vehicle and at the scene of the alleged shooting.

According to the incident report, Rious stated the two agreed to meet at the church to fight after Rious learned the victim assaulted one of his family members earlier that day. Rious claimed he shot in the air as a warning to the victim. The victim was not injured.

Rious was arrested and charged with attempted murder, unlawful carry of a pistol, and aggravated assault. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
