Suspect arrested for armed robbery

Kingstree Police have apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in two armed robberies. On Wednesday, January 25, Andre Nathan Battle, 18, of Kingstree was arrested by police shortly after police responded to a call in reference to a robbery at the Sav-Way located at 400 N. Longstreet Street in Kingstree.
According to a Kingstree Police Incident Report, video survelilence shows a black male attempting to enter the Sav_Way but was unable in enter as the clerk had previously locked the door. The suspect fled the scene and a subsequient manhunt ensued that involved the Kingstree police and Williamsburg County Sheriff’s deputies. Battle was apprehended shortly thereafter. A 22 calaber rifle located within the vacinity of where the suspect was first located was documented and collected for evidence.
Police are also considering Battle as a person of interest in an armed robbery that occurred two days before at the same Sav-Way. On Monday, January 23, at 9:00 p.m. a lone male entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint , according to police incident reports. Video survellience captured the incident. The suspect was dressed completely in black, wearing a black hooded top, pants and shoes. After walking to the rear of the store, the suspect rushed to the front of the store with what appeared to be a rifle pointed it at the clerk who was standing behind the counter. The clerk was ordered to hand over the money from the cash resister. Before fleeing the scene the suspect checked under the cash register drawer. Police secured the store and collected evidence. Video surviellance of both incidences as well as other evidence have been sent to SLED for porcessing. At time of press Battle remains incarcerated at the Williamsburg County Detention Center.
Battle is also charged in connection to a November 2011, attempted armed robbery that took place at a Johnsonville McDonald’s. Those charges are still pending.
