Funeral services for Sherman “Jr.” Manning, conducted by the Rev. David Woods, Jr., were held Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Salters, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home.
Mr. Manning died Sunday, November 18, 2012. He was born December 21, 1942, in Miami, Florida, a son of the late Sherman Manning and Savannah Gaston. He was raised in New York and graduated from Thomas Edison High School. He also attended Staten Island Community College for two years. He was employed by Creedmoor State Hospital in Queens Village, New York, as a mental hygiene therapist, where he retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Salters. A son, Daniel Manning, preceded him in death. Survivors are: his wife, Barbara Manning; four daughters, LeWanda Anderson, Lanora Manning, Vivian Manning, and Dora Manning; seven sons, Nolan Manning, Sherman Manning, Maurice Manning, Jeremy Manning, Rodney Manning, Sheldon Manning, and Richard Manning; and eight grandchildren.
