Funeral services for Roosevelt Newsome, conducted by the Rev. James C. Dingle, were held Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Jehovah Baptist Church of Bonneau. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Jehovah Baptist Churchyard Cemetery of Bonneau. Mr. Newsome died Tuesday, April 10, 2012. He was born August 15, 1938, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, a son of the late Grant Newsome and Rosetta Braswell Newsome. He received his education in the Freemont County School System. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Later, he attended A&T University and Delhanty Electrical Night School. After acquiring his education, he was employed by Joyce Leslie, Inc., as a full-time truck driver for 35 years, upon his retirement in June 2011. One son, Donald Newsome, and two brothers, John Earl Newsome and Lenard Newsome, preceded him in death. Survivors are: his wife, Deloris Newsome of the home; his children, Miriam Haskin of Neptune, New Jersey; Tracey Emfinger of Moncks Corner; and Craig and Vicky of the home; one sister, Mary Beatrice Odom of Durham, North Carolina; one brother, Matthew Newsome (Geraldine) of Fredericksburg, Maryland; his mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Brown; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
