Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Louise Harden, conducted by the Rev. Gilbert Dekine and the Rev. Jerome Wilson, were held Saturday January 26, 2013, at St. James A.M.E. Church of Lane, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Mrs. Harden died Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the Forest Hill Health Care Center. She was born December 23, 1922, the daughter of the late Ella Miller and William Brown of Lane. She was blessed to have had a loving stepfather, the late Willie “Bubba Willie” Miller. She received her education from Tomlinson High School of Kingstree. After many years she continued her education at the Manpower Training Center (Williamsburg Technical College), where she received a high school diploma and college credits. She was a substitute teacher at Lane Elementary School. During the latter days of her life she was a childcare provider, known as a second mother to many community children. She was married to the late Frank Harden. Her son, Edward, preceded her in death. She was a member at St. James A.M.E. Church, where she served as president of Ushers’ Board and Jr. Ushers’ Board, Class Leader, Adult Sunday school teacher, and Senior Choir member. Survivors are: three daughters, Vivian Peterson (William), Gloria Harris (Roger), and Barbara Tisdale (Theodore); an adopted son, Lavern Roberts (Thomasena); four brothers, Robert Brown (Geneva), Ernest Brown, David Brown (Bernice), Eugene Brown (Betty) and Herbert Miller (Iola); three sisters, Rev. Gladys Brown, Louise Jackson (John), and Mattie Chandler (Leroy); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Trevon Scott, Trevor Patterson, Demar Roberts, Laverne Roberts, Jr., Raymond Roberts, and Darius Paterson.
