Martha Elizabeth “Lib” Tallevast Johnston, 91, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Elizabeth Thompson, were held Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Northside United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by The Mackey Mortuary, followed Monday, May 14, 2012, at Nesmith Baptist Church of Nesmith. Born July 12, 1920, in Nesmith, Williamsburg County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Furman and Martha Elizabeth Brockington Tallavest. A graduate of Anderson Jr. College, from there she attended nursing school. She was a volunteer at Stone Elementary School, the Red Cross and served as a teacher for the Sunday school department. She was a member of the Daughters of The Nile and the Hillcrest Community Club. She was a member of Northside United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Linton Sullivan Johnston and a son, Ernest Floyd Johnston and a brother, Furman Tallevast. Survivors are: two daughters, Beth Johnston Moore (Keith), and Margaret Inez Massingill (fiancée, Harvey Lee Dewitt); two sisters, Margaret Christine Miller and Ernestine Smith, all of Greenville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Northside United Methodist Church, or to Nesmith Baptist Church or to Shriners Hospital for Children.
