LEONARD PHOENIX, CROSS

Funeral services for Leonard Phoenix were held Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Henryhand Funeral Home of St. Stephen. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at Fort Jackson National Cemetery of Columbia. Mr. Phoenix died Thursday, January 17, 2013, at St. Johns Episcopal Hospital of Far Rockaway, New York.

He was born January 23, 1961, in Charleston, the son of the late Leon and Bernice Phoenix. He graduated from Alfred E. Smith High School of Bronx, New York in 1980. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably for approximately three years. He then attended the Bronx Community College, where he received his degree to be an electrician. He worked for several years as an electrician at Rikers Island, New York, New York and later was self-employed. His son, Renard A. Phoenix, preceded him in death. Survivors are: one daughter, Torrey Phoenix; one sister, Jenice Johnson (Gregory) of Cross; one brother, Bernard Phoenix (Joyce) of Sarasota, Florida; and one grandson.
