Joyce Courtney Thigpen, 68, of Summerville, wife of Alton R. Thigpen, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at her residence.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 21, 2013, at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Mrs. Thigpen was born October 29, 1944, in Williamsburg County, the daughter of the late Haden Courtney and Eunalee Walters Courtney. She graduated from Garrett High School. She retired from AT&T (Southern Bell). One sister, Janice Stroud, preceded her in death. Survivors, in addition to her husband, are: two daughters, Teresa Dailey and Marie Shaw of Summerville; one son, Ronald Thigpen (Joe) of Walterboro; one Sister, Linda Snowden (John) of Lake City; one brother, William Courtney (Sally) of Hollywood; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 5965 Core Road, Suite 603, North Charleston, SC 29406.
