John Raymond Duke, 79, widower of Janice Lowrimore Duke, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at his residence. Graveside funeral services, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, were held Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Mr. Duke was born March 9, 1933, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late John Milton and Erline McIntosh Duke. He graduated from Kingstree High School and attended the University of SC. He was retired from the US Postal Service in Richland County and was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Three brothers, Lynwood Duke, Milton McIntosh “Boots” Duke, and Thomas Wilson “Skinny” Duke, and one sister, Nell Williams, preceded him in death. Survivors are: two daughters, Candi Watson (Bob) of Columbia; and Dana Duke of New York; one son, Kip Duke (Sharon) of Lexington; two sisters, Eleanor Avant (Bill) of Georgetown; and Barbara McCutchen (Edsel) of Columbia; one brother, A.C. Duke (Sylvia) of Kingstree; and six grandchildren.
