James “Rooster” Snow, Sr. died Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Hartland Hospice in Wilmington, Delaware. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Samuel, were held Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Clauddie Henryhand Memorial Chapel of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at St. John AME Church Cemetery of Andrews.
Mr. Snow was born January 5, 1929, in Andrews, the son of the late David and Pauline Snow. He was a member of St. John AME Church and was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was united in marriage to Cornelius Vereen for many years and after her death, he later married the late Juanita Gibson. Two sons, Leon Gibson and Willie James Snow, preceded him in death. Survivors are: six daughters, Jenell Snow of Wilmington, Delaware; Ophelia Snow and Bessie Gibson, both of Rochester, New York; Sylvia Jean Snow of Andrews; Rebecca Snow of Myrtle Beach; and Glenisha Gibson of Coco, Florida; seven sons, Charles Snow (Bert) of Columbia; James Snow (Crystal) and Jimmy Nesmith, both of Wilmington, Delaware; Tommy Gibson (Goldie) and Sidney Gibson (Lessie), both of Andrews; Moses Gibson of Salters; and Charles Gibson (Shirley) of Gresham; 34 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
