Hospital Considers Rehab Service

5/27/2009 by Michaele Duke, Staff Reporter

During the May 19, Williamsburg Regional Hospital board meeting CEO John Hales proposed that the board consider designating a number of beds to a new service providing inpatient physical rehabilitation.

Hales said there would be no change in bed availability but certification to have the beds would add another type of patient care.

Hales said the idea was discussed in 2004 and at the time it was not considered a viable option but since then it is evolved to include skilled nursing care as well as inpatient rehabilitation. Hales said, for example, a patient would be one who had undergone orthopedic surgery and required only short-term rehabilitation.

He added that the service would be a great addition and could provide additional income for equipment and other needs. Hales also said it would be convenient to citizens as they would not have to drive out of town for the service. The board agreed to notify CMS of their intentions.

Williamsburg County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended a third suspect on May 13. Antonio Lavelle McClary, 19, of Kingstree is being held at the Williamsburg County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing before a general sessions court judge.

Dorsey was found shot to death in his home by a family member. It was later determined by law enforcement that three of the suspects entered the victim’s home with more than one firearm.

Mack, Allen and Bowen each have been charged as a fugitive and at press time all currently are being held in Maryland detention centers pending extradition to South Carolina. The motive for this incident remains under investigation by the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office.
