ANTHONY MCCREA, SR., KINGSTREE

Funeral services for Anthony Leroy “Leroy” McCrea, Sr., conducted by the Rev. Jeannetté Cooper and the Rev. Haynes T. Gainey, were held Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home. Mr. McCrea died Monday, December 17, 2012, at Carolinas Hospital System of Florence. He was born October 15, 1931, in Kingstree, the son of the late Calvin McCrea and Olive Scott McCrea. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he was also acknowledged with a 50 years of service and dedication certificate as a member of the church. He was a lifelong farmer, and retired after 30 years of service at Baxter Laboratory in the 1990s. Four brothers, Robert McCrea, James McCrea, Joe McCrea and Franklin McCrea, preceded him in death. Survivors are: his wife, Jannie W. Gainey McCrea of the home; two sons, Anthony L. McCrea, Jr. of Durham, North Carolina; and Danny T. McCrea (Angela) of Cincinnati, Ohio; four daughters, Cathy A. McCrea of Kingstree; Vonda E. McCrea of Sumter; Cassandra M. Miller (Michael) of Charleston; and Julia Bailey (Thomas) of Durham, North Carolina; two sisters, Blondell Dixon of Pinehill, New Jersey; and Dethilee Payne of Kingstree; one brother, Roland McCrea (Patsy) of Kingstree; a granddaughter he reared as his own, Gabrielle O. McCrea; and 16 grandchildren.
