Frances Moree was holding her Bible when she was struck by a vehicle in front of her Ringel Heights home Saturday afternoon.
Coroner Kenny Johnson said 82-year-old Moree was walking to see a neighbor who lives across from her Highway 701 home when she was hit. Her Bible was found on the roadway after the accident, Johnson said.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant, a Chevy Suburban, driven by a 44-year-old woman from Hemingway, was northbound on Highway 701 when she struck Moree near the intersection of Empire Court.
Johnson said Moree's husband, Logan Moree Sr., was watching her cross the road and witnessed the accident.
He said Moree was pronounced dead on the scene. She died from multiple blunt force trauma.
After the Georgetown Times posted the story as breaking news on its website Saturday, readers began posting their sentiments.
“She was such a sweet gentle woman,” wrote reader Ruby Flemming.
“My thoughts and prayers goes out to the family and friends of Mrs. Moree,” added Katrina Grant Bromell.
Wyant said the accident is still under investigation. No charges were filed against the driver.
