Ronnie Sabb

Incumbent Candidate for State Senator, District 32

Ronnie Sabb will be running for his fourth term in the South Carolina Senate in the 2024 elections.  Sabb is a native of Greeleyville.   He is an attorney and President of Sabb Law Group with locations in Kingstree and Lake City. Sabb was elected Assistant Minority Leader in the Senate in 2022.

During his time in office, he is proud to have contributed to the bipartisan work committee to formulate and pass the gasoline tax infrastructure bill in 2017.  Sabb says it was the largest infrastructure investment in the state’s history.  He also championed free technical college education and worked with Dr. Patty Lee at Williamsburg Technical College to pilot the program. He also helped expand broadband infrastructure across South Carolina and worked with partners across the state to get MUSC Black River Medical Center built. He was instrumental in increasing teacher pay and incentivizing teacher retention in South Carolina.

Issues on the horizon include the continued effort to develop a state park along the Black River, which will be an important driver for tourism and economic growth in Williamsburg and Georgetown counties. He would also like to see water and sewer capacity shovel-ready when economic development opportunities arise.  “We must continue to partner with the Department of Commerce in building spec buildings for industries to locate and provide good-quality jobs, and make certain the Department of Transportation continues with the long-range plan to repave each road and bring all roads and bridges up to very good or excellent standards,” he says.

“It has been the honor of my life to serve this area and my family, friends, and neighbors. Your unwavering support and trust in me have been the driving force behind my work, and for that, I am deeply grateful. To God be the glory.”

Sumpter

Princillia Sumpter

Candidate for State Senator, District 32

Prinscillia Sumpter is running for Senate District 32 because she is tired of feeling helpless. “District 32 can no longer afford a placeholder. We need a Representative who is going to fight for their constituents and not just easily settle.”

A host of issues are on Sumpter’s agenda if she is elected.

Sumpter is pro-choice and believes laws should not dictate how people make life decisions involving their bodies. She would like to see Medicaid expanded to include low income families who do not qualify for the Affordable Care Act.

She would like to see an increase in minimum wage, more pay for teachers, and more funding to support the education system.

Sumpter wants to see a ban on police officers who are terminated for misconduct and jump from county to county.

She supports a Hate Crime Bill. She wants South Carolina qualifications requirements changed to require a law license for Magistrate Judges, and medical backgrounds such as doctor, nurse, or practitioner for Coroners. Also, she wants all SC Mental Health Facilities to be operated by licensed professionals with no work around requirements.

As far as gun laws are concerned, she does not think an 18-year-old should be able to purchase a gun with no measures in place.  She believes open carry should apply only to citizens who have a permit.  She thinks to let felon, criminal or mentally unstable individuals to be able to openly carrying a firearm is dangerous. She also wants stiffer punishment for Domestic Violence and repeated offenders.

Sumpter is a resident of St. Stephen. She earned her BA of Science in Organizational Management from Voorhees College, then earned a Master in Human Resource Management from Webster University and a Master in Health Care Administration from The University of Phoenix.

She is a licensed nursing home administrator and serves as a Guardian ad Litem for Berkeley County. She is the owner of PDS Home Health and HR Management and nonprofit PDS Advocacy and Social Assistance.

Sumpter is a member of the Voorhees College Alumni -Berkeley County Chapter. She is a member of St. Peters Baptist Church in Pineville. She is married and has three adult children and three grandchildren.

District 32 serves portions of Berkeley, Charleston, Florence, Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties. This is the first of a series introducing the candidates running for office in Williamsburg County.
