She is running for office to help communities move forward to greater success.

A few of her top issues are establishing measures to promote safer communities and schools, and creating better health outcomes through more opportunities for farmers and the availability of more fresh local foods. Atkinson is a lifelong resident of Marion and a graduate of Marion High School. His mother is a retired school teacher and his father is the Probate Judge for Marion County. After graduating from Clemson University, Atkinson returned home and worked on the senate campaign of his good friend Senator Kent Williams. That experience catapulted him into politics.

Some of the highlights of his service so far include helping to pass the gas tax, which he says is one of the most crucial pieces of legislation passed since he has been in Columbia. The bill enabled improvements to roads and infrastructure. He has also worked to improve public education in his district and across the state.

“One of the most important things I can do is bring money back to our area to better serve my constituents and help our community,” he says. He obtained $200,000 for the Town of Hemingway for to update their public safety equipment, and $250,000 to improve parks and recreation facilities at COSS Center (Stuckey), Nesmith/Morrisville Park, and Chavis One Stop Recreation Complex. “I'm going to keep fighting for Williamsburg County to make sure we get our fair share,” he says.

Atkinson is a member of Marion Baptist Church and the Marion and Mullins Chapters of the Chamber of Commerce.

Atkinson is running again because making an impact on people’s everyday lives, whether it is passing legislation or just working through an issue with a constituent, motivates him. “I’ve been honored to serve over the last couple of years and have enjoyed bringing my hands-on style of public service to Williamsburg County.”
